In 1952, Ted Misner converted his poultry farm on the edge of town into a pet boarding facility. Inspired by his belief in free-range chickens, he didn’t like the idea of keeping dogs and cats in cages, so he pioneered the development of “indoor/outdoor pens” for them instead.
Ted founded T M Kennels in 1952. By 1965, Ted was a champion dog breeder and a celebrity in the canine community. In addition to his impeccable show dogs, the charismatic aficionado hosted a radio show, offering helpful advice with everything from dog behavior to grooming. He was affectionately nicknamed the “Doggy Daddy” by many of his clientele.
One kennel became two, and then three. Ted quickly transformed his farm into the sprawling pet sanctuary it is today. In addition to the boarding facilities, there’s a training room, grooming shop, a day camp, and five employee apartments with live in staff. The property is over 25 acres, one of the largest boarding facilities in the world, and we’re still growing! Our clientele come to us from all over New England – as far reaching as Connecticut and Rhode Island – to take advantage of our services.
Ted’s desire back then, and our continued efforts today, center on creating a safe, comfortable, and fun stay for your pets when they cannot be home. Our facility is large, yet our setting is intimate enough to provide each pet with a quality of care that is unlike many other large kennels. Our staff is dedicated to making each individual pet feel welcome and secure while under their care.
In addition to boarding, you can choose from our many “a la carte” services to ensure your pet has a truly enjoyable experience with us. Many of our clients affectionately refer to our facility as “camp” when telling their pets they are coming to the kennel. They tell us how excited their pets are when they turn on to our street. Those wagging tails and bouncing, wiggling bodies are our biggest compliments!
